Identity Theft
Identity theft is the use of another person's identifying information whether personal or financial, in an attempt to steal their money. This includes illegally obtaining social security numbers, names, addresses, credit card numbers, etc. that are often stolen offenders who obtain access to this information from lost or stolen mail. Identity theft has become a huge problem resulting in millions of dollars in losses every year. When an individuals' identity has been stolen and the information utilized, the damage and/or harm to the victim can be wide-ranging and difficult to repair. Penal Code Section 528-539.
